Autumn Day Trip to the Museums at Springfield, MA

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

The Waterford Historical Museum and Cultural Center's Autumn Day Trip will feature a visit to Historic Deerfield, MA Wednesday, October 5, 2011. See the Berkshires' colorful fall foliage.

Deerfield Village was settled in 1669 and was a frontier outpost in British North America. It was attacked numerous times and nearly destroyed during a French and Indian raid in 1704. Upon arrival we will see an orientation film and then have a guided coach tour of the main street, followed by a visit through one of the houses. After lunch, there will be the option of walking through the other houses, visiting exhibits in the Flynt Center of Early New England Life and shopping in the museum store.

Historic Deerfield is a "museum of history, art and architecture along a mile-long street laid out in 1671 and still lined with 18th- and 19th-century houses on their original sites. This quintessential New England village is surrounded by working farms and rolling cornfields along the Deerfield River. Here in western Massachusetts, Historic Deerfield?s museum houses range in date from the 1730s to the 1840s. Inside you will find one of the best public collections of art and antiques in America while you explore the lifestyle of early New England in a working village of endless beauty."
